The curculionid genus Pachyrrhynchus is widely known as one of the spectacular beetle species in the world owing to its very beautiful colors with different designs. However, most collectors know it only from dead stock.

While I was in Banaue a few years ago, I was able to take photos of Pachyrrhynchus congestus just at the roadside near the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Banaue Rice Terraces. It was just crawling on the leaves of this tree and when disturbed, it dropped to the ground, feigning death. This particular tree, which was abundant in the area harbored many specimens but generally of this species only.
